The Benefits of Health Care Reform In Alaska: Energy and Commerce Statement

These benefits are real, not imagined, not hyped up.  I have followed efforts to reform health insurance practices since the days when John Dingell took on the Bush administrations as it gutted Medicare funding, and when he attacked predatory sales practices in Medicare Advantage, a program administered by private insurance companies.

H.R. 3590 is going to help this country.  I have poured over many of the changes outlined in this document to the Federal Tax Code, the Social Security Act, and the Health Services Act.  It corrects inequities in these current laws, and it is legislation that cannot be undone with the merest swipe of a pen, and that is as it should be.

If people do not trust this bill, they need to read it, and the laws to which it applies.  If you cannot trust lawmakers, then read it yourself.  It won't be easy.  It is complicated, but sometimes it has to be complicated.

This is the right thing to do, and it was the right way to do it.
